Stand

Awakening the extraordinary within you doesn’t come without a fight. The moment you take a stand and commit to fulfilling and living an extraordinary life is when the true strength of your dreams, character, grit and faith are tested.

My husband and I have been married for 2 and a half years and have been dating for 10 years this October, just a few short weeks away. We sat down together on one Sunday evening at the end of July to write down our dreams and be bold about what we want for our lives moving forward. Beautiful, poetic, strong and hopeful were these declarations written and sown into our journals that night. And after having read each other's dreams, we sealed it with prayer and a goodnight kiss.

Sounds romantic, doesn’t it?

In the weeks that followed, we were slowly becoming adrift and were increasingly occupied with our own lives. Indifference and frustration had crept within me to the domesticated part of my life and my husband had his own personal challenges going on. Financially, things were going the opposite direction to what we were praying and believing for. Our declarations were slowly becoming just a good idea and a fading memory.

I saw the beginnings of a negative mindset in me and character flaws that surfaced were starting to erode at my confidence. It felt like a veil had covered me and I had lost peace of mind.

How naive we were to think that opposition wouldn’t come for dreaming big…

We hit the pause button on our reality for a moment after realising how frustrated we both were, stood back and evaluated where we were headed. I reached out to some trusted friends of mine to help me walk out some things so that I could push through my personal challenges to keep moving forward. Accountability is underestimated - don’t neglect the good counsel you have around you, it’s okay to speak up if things aren’t right. It’s God’s design for us to be in community, find rest in community and grow in community.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” Don’t do your life alone, be brave and reach out to people when you need help.

...Blindsided were we. When we were finally able to see the state of our reality, after some frustration, we were dumbfounded... but we didn’t stay dumbfounded, we did the necessary to get back in the game.

The bible talks about the enemy seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8) and when our guards are down by not praying, not reading our bibles, being caught up in the busyness of our lives, he sneaks in without you even knowing, on a mission to stop you from doing the extraordinary in your life.

So how do we fight for the extraordinary life?
Stand. Put your godly armour on and begin to call out in faith what is not yet true of yourself or your circumstances and hold your stance. The enemy wants to blindside you, keep you silent and leave you on an endless mental merry-go-round of self pity, hopelessness, fear, confusion, guilt or shame because if he can keep you stuck in the imprisonment of your mind, you cannot reach victory or freedom and therefore, the body of Christ is weakened.

Take a stand against the enemy by using the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God - the Bible. Defend yourself with the shield of faith that extinguishes the flaming arrows of the evil one and pray at all times, on every occasion with all kinds of prayer and requests (Ephesians 6). You have been predestined for the true power of God to be awoken within you and you may not even realise that your armour lays vacant. But you can change that by putting it on today and fighting back for the extraordinary to awaken in you because once it is released, then the extraordinary is awoken in the Church of Jesus Christ.

Pray, wear your godly armour, seek counsel and fight with the Word of God which the bible declares is alive, active and sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).

And get ready for the extraordinary to awaken in you.
